The Promise of Biscuits

Christmas Biscuits

In yesterday’s blog post there was some talk of ‘the promise of biscuits’.  I thought it would be rude not to share my biscuits with you!

Bauble Christmas Card Tutorial

Cards1

Here is a tutorial for one of the cards I included in a recent Christmas card-making workshop.  It’s a really simple card – suitable for inexperienced card-makers.  It’s the card on the far left of the image above.  You can find a tutorial for the button tree card here (card on the far right, above).

Yummy Chilli Recipe

Cooking chilli

Now Autumn is well and truly here, it’s time for warming, hearty dinners.  One of hubby’s favourites is chilli, not least because I tend to make a large batch and put at least half in the freezer.  This recipe came from my mother-in-law and has been tweaked a little along the way.  I hope you like it.

I thought it would be a nice idea for me to do a short post linking to existing iMake tutorials for items that would make good Christmas gifts.  I have focused on items that are fairly quick and easy to make.  I hope these links are useful…

Applique Project Bag

Applique bag 12

I love buying or making gifts for my crafty friends.  Here’s a nice idea with that in mind.  Buy (or make) a plain draw string bag and then embellish it by hand. I went for applique and buttons but you could do anything you like.  I think lino printing would work well.  Then fill it with everything your friend needs to complete a craft project.  For example, knitting needles, yarn, a pattern, stitch markers etc.  I purchased some plain drawstring bags from The Clever Baggers and this is my attempt at decorating one.

It’s all about food in my household at the moment.  I’ll be back to my traditional knitting/sewing/etc craft this weekend, all being well, but for now, it seems my blog is something of a food fest.

Cheats’ Bread

Entries in bread contest (Farmers' School and Housekeepers' Conference, 1910. Box Elder High School, ...

I have become mildly obsessed with conquering my fear of yeast cookery, ever since I couldn’t quite master Guernsey Gache.  So this time I thought I’d have a go at making bread from a packet.  Basically the mix is all the dry ingredients and you make the bread from that.  You can use these bread mixes to make bread by hand or in a bread maker.  I opted for ‘by hand’ and this is how I got on…

Lavender Eye Pillow Tutorial

Lavender Eye Pillow 15

I have been inspired to get my sewing machine out recently.  I am not a great sewer (sewist, seamstress?) but this is a really easy project and doesn’t require you to be too neat!

Many of you will know that I love working with lavender (usually in oil format, check out my lavender healing salve) but I also like dried lavender. This lavender eye pillow is really relaxing – just place it across your eyes and chill out. It’s nice to use, if you do yoga, at the end of a session (during relaxation). It can also be popped in the freezer to cool it down or warmed in the microwave for 20/30 seconds to heat it up (be very careful doing this – make sure it is not too hot!)
