I am loving my iPhone photography apps at the moment. Halftone really made me smile! For just 69p you can turn your photos into cartoons (see the before shot below and the after shot above). You can add paper textures, speech and thought bubbles, stamps and captions. You also have full control over fonts. It’s easy to use and sharing your images to social networks and email is straightforward. Like the best iPhone photography apps out there, it is compatible with other apps such as Instagram and Color Splash.

I have blogged a lot about Pinterest over the past 18 months (that’s how long my fascination with the site appears to have been going on!) Here are links to a few of those posts…

I have been posting my Instagram snaps on the blog for a while now, but I have started combining Instagrams with other apps to create cool effects like adding text or layering filters. I also mess around with them in Photoshop sometimes and add borders and labels courtesy of Pugly Pixel or Fuzzimo (2 of my favourite websites). So I’ve changed the name of this regular blog feature to iPhoneography: [insert theme here]. iPhoneography is an actual thing, according to my web research, so it seemed like a fitting title. So here are a few snaps captured on my iPhone over the past month or so…

Following my recent post about the potential copyright issues on Pinterest, I discovered a fantastic website called Link with Love. Link with Love is the website behind The Pinterest Project. It’s all about respecting the intellectual property of people’s work, as well as your own. It promotes leading by example when sharing content and reminds you to retain links and post credit (as I have done with the image above, which is from Flickr and subject to a Creative Commons licence). You can read more how Link with Love works here. You can also follow them on Twitter and on Facebook. There are also badges on the Link with Love website, like the one below, for you to display on your own website.
Thanks to Ruby for pointing me in the direction of Link with Love. Ruby has a wonderful blog called Moley Makes and she too has written an interesting article about Pinterest.
***Update! Since writing the post, it looks like Pinterest have updated their Terms and Conditions. I’m having a good look at them and will post on the subject again soon***

I wanted to share a fantastic website with you called Da Font. It’s a website of fonts contributed by various designers which are available for download. The fonts on the website are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain. Downloading fonts is quite simple, it is explained in the help section. The licensing details are explained just above the download button for each font. When you download a font a readme file is included and this will include the author’s website details. You can contact the author if you are unclear on the licence requirements.
For crafters, having access to interesting, creative fonts (outside those included in Photoshop or your word processing application) can be really useful. I have started using different fonts on my tutorial photographs (example here). Knitwear designers or eBook publishers can use different fonts to make their publication stand out. I can also see scrapbookers and card-makers taking advantage of this fantastic resource. Enjoy!

Despite being a knitter and all-round general creative bod, I am not brilliant with colour. I am just a little bit scared of it! This is reflected in my knitting, my craft and, to be honest, my wardrobe. I think perhaps the reason why I have never tried colourwork knitting is that I don’t really have a clue which colours work well together. With my other crafts, I tend to go with obvious colour matches which gives anything I produce a harmonious, yet predictable, look. So I think it’s time to sort this out! In my quest to embrace colour, I have discovered 2 wonderful resources: a website called Colour Lovers and a free iPhone app called ColorSchemer. (The app and the website work brilliantly together, however, you don’t need the app – you can just work off the website). I must thank the wonderful PuglyPixel for introducing me to Colour Lovers – her site is amazing and a wonderful resource too. The template I used in the image above is from PuglyPixel.

Last week was half term and I spent a lovely few days in Jersey with hubby. We did lots of nice things, including recording a bit of audio for the podcast. I have not listened to it yet but assuming it sounds ok, it will be included in the next show (due for release during the first week of March). I took a few photos on my iPhone and I thought I’d share them with you here on the blog. The photo above was our view from the ferry as we left Guernsey, or ‘Guerney’ according to our welcome sign…

I just wanted to share a couple of photos from my week, although there will be more to come as I have spent some time in Jersey this week and took quite a few snaps. This week was all about food (many of my weeks are!) It was valentine’s day so I spent a lovely evening at home with hubby. Dinner consisted of steak pie with vegetables and a chocolate mousse topped with a heart chocolate. There was also quite a bit of champers… Yummy! I also seem to be going a bit mad for stir fry and miso soup (well at least that’s healthy I suppose!) Keep an eye out for some Jersey photos on the blog next week.

It’s time for another screencast. This one is about basic photo editing. I am a Photoshop user, but I am aware that not everyone is able to have access to Photoshop. Whilst it is a brilliant piece of software, it’s expensive, and it is has so many functions that it can be a little overwhelming. Thankfully, the good folks at Photoshop offer a free, online photo editor on their website www.photoshop.com and I have to say, it’s really good. This screencast gives you a little demonstration of what Photoshop Express Editor can do. I hope you enjoy it.
