Guernsey Craft Goes Live

Guernsey_Craft_Logo
This is one for the Guernsey-based crafters…  In the most recent episode of my podcast I mentioned that I had been working on a little side project – a new website called Guernsey Craft at www.guernseycraft.com.  The idea is for the site to be community-driven. It will rely on local craft enthusiasts and creative businesses to contribute content in the form of calendar entries (for crafty events) and articles for the site’s news page.  It’s in beta stage at the moment which means that there still might be a few changes.  But I have had a few friends testing it (thanks Kate and Jo) and so far, things seem to be working well.  Click here to find about more about the site.

You’ll notice that it looks remarkably similar to the iMake website…  That’s deliberate!  I like the layout and look of this site.  So I though it made sense for there to be a consistent appearance at this stage.  iMake is funding the site and I am moderating the content.  At some point I will look for an additional sponsor and possibly involve a small team of people to moderate content as it grows.

Anyway, please let me know what you think.  If you are a Guernsey-based crafter please subscribe to the site for updates and if you are keen to contribute content in the form of calendar dates or articles, please register for a username and password.

Jersey in Pictures

In the bar on the boat

Last week was half term and I spent a lovely few days in Jersey with hubby.  We did lots of nice things, including recording a bit of audio for the podcast.  I have not listened to it yet but assuming it sounds ok, it will be included in the next show (due for release during the first week of March).  I took a few photos on my iPhone and I thought I’d share them with you here on the blog.  The photo above was our view from the ferry as we left Guernsey, or ‘Guerney’ according to our welcome sign…

Instagram Snaps: My Week

My week

Here are a few Instagram shots summing up the past week or so.  I have been trying to walk a bit more this week to increase my physical activity levels and I have been managing to hit 10,000 steps almost every day (I am monitoring this using a Fitbit – it’s fabulous!  I got mine off Amazon).  Not only is walking a nice chance to think, but it is also a chance to capture a few photos of my lovely surroundings, here in Guernsey.  To counter the increase in exercise, I have been baking (oops!)  I made a lovely lemon drizzle cake (not too healthy) but I also made sushi, which is much healthier!  It’s been a good week and, despite the cold weather, I think spring is on its way.

No Snow in Guernsey

Today's walk (5 Feb 12)

Yesterday I went for a nice walk with hubby and, whilst it was mighty chilly, I don’t think we have any chance of seeing snow here in Guernsey.  We walked around Pembroke and I took a couple of photos which I thought I’d share here on the blog. Enjoy…

Instagram Snaps: My Week

My week

Here is a little insight into my week through a few Instagram snapshots.  It’s been a good week.  There’s been lots of knitting.  The Damask KAL is going really well with lots of people getting involved (it’s not too late to join in if you are interested!)  I have also cast on a lovely beret using yarn from the wonderful people at Toft.  I am reviewing some of their yarn and a pattern book at the moment.  So far, I am totally in love with both… watch this space for further details.   I also got out for a run this week for the first time in about 3 months.  I have been suffering with some back problems, so that, and a few other distractions, meant that I have not been exercising much.  It felt GREAT to get outside again.  To top it all off, I enjoyed several coffees with friends… one of my favourite things ever.

Local Crafters: InkBison

InkBison 5

This interview is the next installment in my series of interviews with local crafters.

I am delighted to introduce you to Gina aka InkBison.  Gina and I were at school together but we have not seen each other for… well… more years than I care to remember!  (Feeling old…!)  So it was a lovely surprise to get an email from her about her brand new crafty project.  It’s been an absolute pleasure interviewing her.

Local Crafters: Maggie and Mabel

Maggie and Mabel

I am planning a series of interviews with local crafters at the moment so hopefully this will be the first of several.  (Incidentally, if you are a Guernsey crafter interested in being featured on the iMake blog, please drop me a line).  Lisa and Sarah are sisters that share a passion for craft.  They formed Maggie and Mabel last year to share their gorgeous handmade creations with the world.  They make a wide range of products and everything has a lovely, homely feel.  Their products include cards, framed cross-stitch pictures, covered notebooks, blankets and (my personal favourite) jars of crafty bits and bobs with a pin cushion on the lid.  Maggie and Mabel have very kindly offered to sponsor next month’s blog giveaway, so keep an eye out!
