Making Chocolate Truffles

Truffles

On Tuesday night, my dear crafty pal Jo and I attended a chocolate truffle making workshop.  It was good fun, although I must confess, I don’t think we are ‘natural’ truffle makers.  Clearly, the gorgeous truffles in the photograph above were not made by us! It was quite a messy experience and we spent most of the evening covered in melted chocolate.  But it was a giggle! I recorded a little audioboo about it for you and also took a few photos.  Enjoy…

Yummy Chilli Recipe

Cooking chilli

Now Autumn is well and truly here, it’s time for warming, hearty dinners.  One of hubby’s favourites is chilli, not least because I tend to make a large batch and put at least half in the freezer.  This recipe came from my mother-in-law and has been tweaked a little along the way.  I hope you like it.

My Breadmaker Made This #1

Wholemeal Loaf

As promised, here are some photos of my first breadmaker creations.  Note that I have called this post ‘My Breadmaker Made This’ rather that ‘I Made This’.  It really is so easy that I cannot take much credit for making these loaves.  As a passionate advocate of making things by hand, this may seem a little odd… perhaps even hypocritical.  But I am pretty comfortable with using ‘tools’ to get a wonderful end result.  My breadmaker is a tool, and this bread was very much a team effort between me and the machine…

Above is loaf number 2, my first wholemeal loaf.

Pickled!

Pickles 5

It’s all about food in my household at the moment.  I’ll be back to my traditional knitting/sewing/etc craft this weekend, all being well, but for now, it seems my blog is something of a food fest.

Life Enhancing Kitchen Toy

A New Era

Image details: A New Era by JD Hancock, via Flickr

Those of you who listen the iMake podcast will know that I have been pondering getting a breadmaker for a while.  Thanks to everyone who contacted me offering advice on whether to buy one or not.  Thanks to a number of you, I was convinced that purchasing a breadmaker would enhance my life immeasurably (and they call me an enabler!)  So through Amazon I purchased the Panasonic SD-2501WXC Automatic Breadmaker with Nut & Raisin Dispenser & Gluten Free Program.

Mmmmm… Graze

Graze Box 1

I cannot seem to stop blogging about food!  This time, it’s nothing to do with my cooking or growing exploits.

Quick side bar: the iMake blog is supposed to be all about ‘the handmade’, but the reason I felt compelled to blog about what follows is because, quite frankly, it is one of the most creative and fabulous business ideas I have come across in a long time.  I wish I’d thought of it and presented it to the lovely Peter Jones in the Dragons’s Den…  Anyway, I digress, where was I?)

Cheats’ Bread

Entries in bread contest (Farmers' School and Housekeepers' Conference, 1910. Box Elder High School, ...

I have become mildly obsessed with conquering my fear of yeast cookery, ever since I couldn’t quite master Guernsey Gache.  So this time I thought I’d have a go at making bread from a packet.  Basically the mix is all the dry ingredients and you make the bread from that.  You can use these bread mixes to make bread by hand or in a bread maker.  I opted for ‘by hand’ and this is how I got on…

Mutant Carrots

Veggies

As we near the end of my veg growing season (gosh, I sounded like a gardener then!) it’s an opportunity to reflect on what I have learned through this ‘attempt to become green-fingered’…
