Instagram Snaps: My Week

My week

I just wanted to share a couple of photos from my week, although there will be more to come as I have spent some time in Jersey this week and took quite a few snaps.  This week was all about food (many of my weeks are!)  It was valentine’s day so I spent a lovely evening at home with hubby.  Dinner consisted of steak pie with vegetables and a chocolate mousse topped with a heart chocolate.  There was also quite a bit of champers…  Yummy!  I also seem to be going a bit mad for stir fry and miso soup (well at least that’s healthy I suppose!)  Keep an eye out for some Jersey photos on the blog next week.

Book Review: A Soup for Every Day

A Soup for Every Day

We have a book club at work and, to be honest, I try hard not to buy books from it! I am lucky enough to own lots of lovely books already, and I am limited on storage space. Plus I like to support my local library.  However, I was instantly drawn to this book by the New Covent Garden Food Co ‘A Soup for Every Day’.

Spicy Lentil Soup Recipe

Homemade lentil soup for dinner

I made homemade lentil soup for dinner tonight, served with homemade granary bread and Guernsey butter.  I can’t for the life of me remember where this recipe came from, but it was so delicious I just had to share …

A Loft Full of Baskets

Baskets

My lovely friend Charles (friend of the iMake podcast) sent me an odd tweet the other day asking if I wanted some baskets.  A friend of his cleared out her loft.  Don’t ask me why, but her loft was pretty much full of baskets.  Knowing that Charles was a crafty sort, she offered them to him.  He, being a generous fellow, offered to share them with me!

So I am now the proud owner of rather a lot of baskets… but I have no idea what to do with them.  Can anyone make any suggestions? Thank you in advance!  Here are some initial thoughts.  I could fill them with …

While I am being cheeky and asking for your help, please don’t forget to fill out my research survey on this post before the end of the month.  Many thanks.

Making Chocolate Truffles

Truffles

Image details – Truffles by David Leggett, via Flickr

On Tuesday night, my dear crafty pal Jo and I attended a chocolate truffle making workshop.  It was good fun, although I must confess, I don’t think we are ‘natural’ truffle makers.  Clearly, the gorgeous truffles in the photograph above were not made by us! It was quite a messy experience and we spent most of the evening covered in melted chocolate.  But it was a giggle! I recorded a little audioboo about it for you and also took a few photos.  Enjoy…

Yummy Chilli Recipe

Cooking chilli

Now Autumn is well and truly here, it’s time for warming, hearty dinners.  One of hubby’s favourites is chilli, not least because I tend to make a large batch and put at least half in the freezer.  This recipe came from my mother-in-law and has been tweaked a little along the way.  I hope you like it.

My Breadmaker Made This #1

Wholemeal Loaf

As promised, here are some photos of my first breadmaker creations.  Note that I have called this post ‘My Breadmaker Made This’ rather that ‘I Made This’.  It really is so easy that I cannot take much credit for making these loaves.  As a passionate advocate of making things by hand, this may seem a little odd… perhaps even hypocritical.  But I am pretty comfortable with using ‘tools’ to get a wonderful end result.  My breadmaker is a tool, and this bread was very much a team effort between me and the machine…

Above is loaf number 2, my first wholemeal loaf.
