Whilst I’d love to fool you into thinking that the carrots in the above photo were grown by me, alas they are not! These are prize-winning carrots from one of Guernsey’s wonderful agricultural shows, the South Show. I was there today as a judge – they didn’t let me near the veg, but I judged the Arts and Craft section (juniors, seniors and adults) with lovely fellow crafter, Wendy Harris.
Wendy and I saw some lovely work. In each age group we saw knitting, crochet, poetry, photography, painting, pottery, woodwork, scrapbooking, embroidery and much more. We had a tough time deciding on winners.
The rest of the show was impressive too with some fantastic fruit, vegetables, jam, miniature gardens, cakes, plans and flowers. I thought that perhaps we’d missed a trick not judging one of the ‘edible’ classes, as the cakes looked divine. However, without a shadow of a doubt, these happy looking chaps had the best job (judging the homemade booze!!)
I took a few shots from the day, although they were taken very quickly so not as clear as I’d like. These can be found in my Flickr photo album here. I have picked out a couple of shots below from the classes that Wendy and I judged.
I am tempted to enter something in the North Show, which is the show for my end of the island. Hmmm… some knitting maybe? Perhaps Little Colin will get an outing. We’ll see!

That sounds like a lot of fun! The work you’ve pictured is absolutely beautiful – I can’t imagine how long that cross stitch took!
Thanks Misty – it really was fun. The cross stitch was one of my favourite pieces, it was stunning!
